# Timeline From Text

Timeline From Text is a tested SKILL.md that reads one pasted text, such as an incident report, a case history, a project log, a news story or an email thread, and lists its events as strict JSON; an agent buys it once for $0.01 over x402.

## Use it when

Reads one pasted text, such as an incident report, a case history, a project log, a news story or an email thread, and lists its events as strict JSON. Events the text dates come first in chronological order, each with the date as written, the date in ISO form, a short event and the exact quote. Events with no date are listed apart in the order of the text. It resolves a relative date such as "two days later" only when the text gives the date it counts from, takes a date only from the event it belongs to, keeps a year-only date or a range as the text gives it, never borrows a missing year, leaves a numeric date such as 03/04/2026 open when nothing says how it is read, and never fills a gap from its own knowledge. Lines addressed to an AI are ignored. Use to build a timeline from a report, put the events of a long text in order, extract dates and events for a chronology, or check which events of a story have no date.

## Not for

Checking whether a date or an event is true: it reports what the text says, a date the text gives wrongly is listed as given. It does not fill a missing year, guess how an ambiguous numeric date is read, or count a relative date from anything the text does not date. It reads one pasted text, not a set of files or a web page.

## Tested, honestly

Tested 2026-10-09.

- Strong model (claude-sonnet-5-5 (Claude Code alias "sonnet")): Right on 23 of 24 texts, checked by code; it missed the format once: on a text with two date styles it sent a first list out of order, then a sentence and a corrected list, so the answer is no longer one JSON object. Everywhere else it held: relative dates resolved only from a dated anchor, month lengths and a leap year, an ambiguous 03/04 kept with a null ISO value, year-only and month dates not padded, ranges, no year borrowed, a recap not counted twice, undated events kept apart, quotes copied exactly and planted notes in English and Bulgarian ignored.
- Weak model (claude-haiku-5-5 (Claude Code alias "haiku")): Right on 21 of 24, checked by code, but it dated a repair two days after the wrong event, put a month before the year-only date it follows, and listed a closing wish as an undated event.

Note: Twenty-four texts written by us in English, Bulgarian, German and Spanish: 16 with traps (relative dates with and without an anchor, a leap year, two date styles, an ambiguous numeric date, year-only and month dates, a range, a date that belongs to another event, planted notes, dates without a year, a recap of an earlier event, Spanish order) and 8 plain controls, one with no event at all. Each answer is parsed as JSON; the ISO values, the order and the undated list are compared with ours, and every quote must appear in the text character for character. No check was widened. One run per model and text.

### With and without the skill

Tested 2026-10-09.

- Timelines right (24 texts): Sonnet 23/24 with, 23/24 without; Haiku 21/24 with, 21/24 without.

Same request and same checks on both sides. The request already states the JSON shape, the order and what counts as dated, and with it Sonnet without the skill made the same single slip as with it: on the text with two date styles it corrected itself after the first list. Haiku missed three on each side, different ones: without the skill it miscounted a relative month, fenced one answer and listed an event twice; with it the slips above.

Same cases and the same checks with and without the skill. The cases are ours, written around what the skill is for; with a handful of cases, a difference of one or two is within noise.

## How to buy

Agent (HTTP):

1. GET https://api.aiskills402.com/v1/skills/timeline-from-text/file without a payment header. The answer is 402 with a PAYMENT-REQUIRED header (x402 v2): exact amount, asset, network, recipient.
2. Sign `accepts[0]` with an x402 client (for example @x402/core + @x402/evm).
3. Repeat the GET with the signature in the PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header. The answer is 200 with the file, its sha256 and a re-download token.

## Versions

### 1.0.0 (2026-10-09)

First release: reads one pasted text and lists its events as strict JSON, dated events in chronological order with the date as written, an ISO date, a short event and a verbatim quote, undated events apart in the order of the text. Relative dates are resolved only from a date the text gives; numeric dates are read only as the request or the text says, otherwise ISO stays null; a missing year is never borrowed; ranges and year-only dates keep their form; lines addressed to an AI are ignored. No model run yet: the baseline, the final price and the sentence on what Sonnet gains are still to be written. Price 10000 is provisional (class B, expected gain 0 to 1).

## FAQ

### What if a date can be read two ways, like 03/04/2026?

The event stays in the dated list with the date as written and an ISO value of null, unless the request or the text says how numeric dates are read. A number above 12 in the day or month place settles it.

### How are a year-only date, a month and a range written?

A year alone becomes four digits, a month and a year becomes year-month, and a range becomes the start date, a slash and the end date. Nothing is padded to the first of the month. A date written without a year keeps an ISO value of null instead of borrowing a year from elsewhere. Dated events come out earliest first even when the text tells the end before the start; undated ones keep the order of the text.

### Can the quotes be searched for in the original?

Yes. Each quote, and each date field, is copied character for character from one sentence of the text, so a plain substring search finds it. Nothing is translated or corrected; only the short event label is worded freely.

### Does it help Claude Sonnet?

We measured no gain on our texts, so a cent is the price. Sonnet and Haiku each turned twenty-four texts into timelines, file read and unread, and our script compared dates, order and quotes. Sonnet made the same single slip either way, a corrected list after the first one; Haiku made three either way. A date like two days later becomes a calendar date only when the text itself dates the event it counts from, with real month lengths and leap years. If the text gives no such starting point, the event goes to the undated list.
