Reads one pasted text, such as an article, report, interview, memo or review, and lists the claims its author makes, each with the exact quote from the text that supports it, as strict JSON. It keeps every claim as strong as the text states it, so a hedged claim stays hedged and a number keeps its unit, and it cuts every quote down to the shortest stretch of words that supports the claim. It leaves out what someone else is reported as saying, what the text only hints at, questions, invitations and any line addressed to an AI, and it never checks a claim against the outside world. Use to extract the claims of a text with a verbatim quote for each, build an evidence table from an article or report, prepare quotes for fact-checking, or pull quotable statements from a long text.
Source Quotes Extract is a tested SKILL.md that reads one pasted text, such as an article, report, interview, memo or review, and lists the claims its author makes, each with the exact quote from the text that supports it, as strict JSON; an agent buys it once for $0.05 over x402.
Not for
Fact-checking: it never compares a claim with the outside world, so a false claim the text states plainly is listed like a true one. It leaves out what other people are reported as saying and what the text only hints at. It reads one pasted text, not a set of files or a web page.

Same request on both sides, a fence removed first. Read by hand, Sonnet without the skill already quoted word for word and left reported speech out. It missed four, three of them in Bulgarian: it dropped the hedge from a probable figure, rewrote 1 250 in another number format, split one fact across two claims, and on a plain German text paraphrased the claim so that the word for free was lost. Haiku without the skill missed eight, mostly the same hedges, number formats and plain cases in other languages.
Same cases and the same checks with and without the skill. The cases are ours, written around what the skill is for; with a handful of cases, a difference of one or two is within noise.
- SonnetStrong model, claude-sonnet-5-5
- Right on all 23 texts, read by hand: one claim per fact with the shortest word-for-word quote behind it, hedges such as probably and expected kept in the claim, numbers and units kept in the text's own format (1 250 stays 1 250), a fact that spans two sentences kept as one claim, reported speech and a minister's opinion left out, a cause the text only hints at not stated as a cause, claims written in the text's language (Bulgarian, German, Spanish), and a sentence planted in the text treated as text.
- HaikuWeak model, claude-haiku-5-5
- Right on 22 of 23 texts, read by hand, but it missed one: on a Spanish text with a planted sentence it wrote the claims in English instead of Spanish, although the quotes were right.

v1.0.0 · 2026-10-08
First release: reads one pasted text and lists the claims its author makes, each with the shortest verbatim quote that supports it, as strict JSON. Hedges and units stay in the claim; reported speech, hints, questions and lines addressed to an AI are left out; nothing is checked against the outside world. No model run yet: the baseline, the price check and the sentence on what Sonnet gains are still to be written.
FAQ
Critics, a minister, a spokesperson: are their words listed?
No. Words the text attributes to someone else are that person's claim, not the author's, so they are left out. The author's own findings stay in, even when the text says how they were made, for example a count or an audit.
Are the quotes guaranteed to be word for word?
The skill tells the agent to copy each quote character for character, from one sentence only, and to cut it to the shortest stretch that supports the claim. A script can confirm that every quote occurs in the text by a plain substring test.
What happens to a hedged or rounded claim?
It stays as strong as the text says it. May, suggests, about and nearly remain in the claim, a number keeps its unit and period, and nothing is converted, rounded or recomputed.
Does it help Claude Sonnet?
Yes, mostly outside English. We ran twenty-three texts in four languages through both Claude models, the skill present and absent, and our script checked every claim and quote. Bare Sonnet quoted faithfully, but in Bulgarian it dropped the hedge from a probable figure, changed 1 250 into another number format and split one fact in two; in German it lost the word for free. That is 19 right, against 23 with the file. Haiku went from 15 to 22. A cause the text only hints at is never stated as one.
